Regarding Manfred Krug

Manfred Krug (1937–2016): With his unconventional manner and inimitable charm, the Duisburg-born actor, singer, and entertainer delighted audiences of millions. In the 1960s and 70s, he rose to become a DEFA star and shaped an entire generation with films such as Trace of Stones—initially banned, later a cult classic. At the same time, he conquered the stage as a singer with a distinctive voice and laconic wit, performing his own jazz and chanson lyrics.

After his departure, he made an impressive comeback: series such as Liebling Kreuzberg, Auf Achse, and Tatort finally established him as a favorite among audiences throughout Germany. The year 2026 marks the tenth anniversary of his death.

Press voice

“It is clear to see that his whole heart is in Krug’s cause and that he empathizes with his situation at that time. Blochberger did not copy him and offered the people more than they could have imagined.”

NEIL YOUNG - COMES A SONG

Konzertlesung mit Ludwig Blochberger

Navid Kermani’s narrative "The Book of the Killed by Neil Young" is among the most beautiful, clever, and crazy texts ever written about rock music - a hymn to life.

The story begins with the notorious three-month colic: evening after evening, the narrator's newborn daughter writhes in cramps. The only effective antidote is the songs of Neil Young. For father and daughter, a journey begins through the cosmos of the Canadian musician—towards lost illusions, fleeting moments of happiness, and the great questions of life. With a light touch, Navid Kermani weaves the everyday life of a young family with existential thoughts and shows where splinters of paradise can still be found: and not just in music.

The actor and musician Ludwig Blochberger brings this narrative to the stage as a concert reading. Kermani's text forms the literary backbone of the evening. For the stage, the text was carefully condensed and interwoven with the music of Neil Young. For Ludwig Blochberger, however, this story began years earlier - and it has long since extended into his own family life.

Press voice

"... The actor is, of course, a skilled performer. But the former Vienna Boys' Choir member also possesses a very beautiful tenor voice and, above all, the right feeling for the music, which makes the concept work brilliantly. It works best during the passage in which the Neil Young fan archetype is described using dozens of song titles; Blochberger doesn't just read the titles, he sings them. A tour de force that, dramaturgically, can hardly be surpassed. Except, of course, by songs like 'Heart Of Gold' and 'Rockin’ In The Free World'."
