A musical-literary revue based on the bestseller by Manfred Krug: Ludwig Blochberger approaches the popular, indomitable actor and singer in all his facets and creates an unusual, exciting, and touching portrait reflected through the spirit of his time.
The evening takes as its starting point Krug’s recollections of the weeks following the expatriation of Wolf Biermann in November 1976. Through a mix of a secretly recorded conversation, diary entries, and personal reflections, a portrait emerges of an artist who refused to be co-opted and who articulated his stance with great precision, wit, and vulnerability.
Accompanied by the jazz musicians of the Goin’ Out West Quintet, Ludwig Blochberger sings some of the most beautiful songs and classics from Krug’s repertoire, inviting the audience to rediscover his lyrics and songs and carry them forward into the present.

About Manfred Krug
Manfred Krug (1937–2016): With his unconventional manner and inimitable charm, the Duisburg-born actor, singer, and entertainer captivated millions. In the 1960s and 70s, he rose to become a DEFA star, shaping an entire generation with films such as "Spur der Steine" —initially banned, later a cult classic. At the same time, he conquered the stage as a singer, winning audiences over with his distinctive voice, dry wit, and original jazz and chanson lyrics. After leaving East Germany, he achieved an impressive comeback: series such as "Liebling Kreuzberg", "Auf Achse", and "Tatort" cemented his status as a beloved figure for audiences across the whole of Germany.
October 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of Manfred Krug’s death. November marks 50 years since Wolf Biermann was stripped of his citizenship. In February 2027, Krug would have turned 90.
